Texas Wildcats Strategy

The 'Cats are the team where getting your cards to work together can mean a 10-point swing in a quarter. They're the team most focused on offense, as only Lyssa and Gordo have even a single block value above 5. But everybody's a good Shooter in one or two zones, and most are at least average in the third. With this disparity, the forward Mel may be the most valuable player on the team. You don't even have to look at her numbers, because they're basically all 5's. When you see her name, play her anywhere you want - Blocker, Shooter, whatever, she'll do the job.

The Special Effects all change shot values and point values in your favor, whether on your plays or your opponent's. Give Me An A! can swing a play from a nice 11 to the dreaded 9, or vice versa, without any effort. With Gordo in the discard pile, Liftoff can swing a play's shot value even more. Go Team! can make your play worth more, or the opponent's slam dunk worth a paltry point. These cards are great in combination. If you've got a Give Me An A! and Liftoff atop your discards, it doesn't matter where you shoot from, or who or what you shoot with. If you've got a value changer ensuring success, dropping a Go Team! on that play makes more hay while the sun shines.

The 5-point bonus from Human Pyramid isn't something you'll be able to pull off every quarter, but when you can, it'll raise your spirits as high as ... well, as having your own cheerleading squad. Human Pyramid requires you to have one of each of your Players in the discard pile. Pay special attention to Lyssa and Heather M, because you only have three of each in your deck. You must succeed in the play to get any points out of a Human Pyramid, so watch out for Blockers and use your shot value changers to nail the 10 you need. A Human Pyramid and a Go Team! in the Green zone is worth a boffo 9 points, if you can get it by your opponent.

Of course, all the discarding for Human Pyramid means you'll likely be heightening the team's lack of blocking by throwing away your Blockers. That means you should be careful not to discard too many Players until you build the Pyramid. But when you've got the Pyramid up, you might just have all the points you need to win the quarter. Then start burning cards straight to the Buzz. You've got a solid chance of dropping one of every Player in the discards if half your deck hits the table in a few seconds.
