Team Sport Strategy

Y'know how when you watch athletes being interviewed, they answer pretty much every question with "We just have to play our game"? That everpresent jock refrain is also the stirring motto of the Fightball team that thinks they're the best athletes. With their motley assortment of sporting gear, these chumps just undermine everything your opponent wants to do. Problem is, they're great at undermining themselves as well.

Check out the down sides first. Their shooting stats aren't anything to write home about, and their Shot cards aren't either. Then again, what do you expect from a Hammer Girl, a Leg-Breaker, a Goalie, a Target Man, and a Boomeranger? So what do you got? Heart, baby. Miles and miles and miles of heart. And some pretty kick-ass block values. And some ruthless tricks.

First among these tricks is the old Interception. This gets you the points of a successful play, no matter who made it. That center under your rim? Yours. That Double Shot? Yours. That Go Team!-Human Pyramid-Give Me An A! in the Green? Guess who's. And while you're taking their points, cut out their hearts with a carefully bounced Bank Shot, worth an extra 2 points but at a cost of -2 to succeed. This also combines with Pick and Roll, where your opponent will be trying to undercut your efforts until he sees all his blockers being ignored.

Bank Shot can also drop an opponent's play into meaningless numbers, and so can Hole in One. If you can't intercept the Human Pyramid, you can make all that effort go for just 1 point. (Watch the card order here, though. Your Hole in One must be played after the Human Pyramid, or it's worth 6 points, not 1.) All this chaos on your opponent's plays means that you can confidently throw cards at your opponent's basket with the thought that some of them have to succeed. You might be confident with just a half-dozen points on your own plays - and a half-dozen more stolen from your opponent's.
