Admit it, you're playing the Cavs because of two numbers,
and they're both on Rocq's card. Those sexy, sexy 10's are
the highest stats in the game. Rocq can score with an off-color
Ball and a Long Shot in the Red zone, probably even if blocked.
He can also stuff any opposing center with a Red Ball and
a Dunk Shot in the Red zone. He's the ultimate low-post Shooter
and the ultimate low-post Blocker. So what're you going to
do with him? You're going to throw him away.
That's right, you're gonna chuck one of your four Rocqs in
your discard pile. Unless you've got a free play on your own
Red zone, drop the first Rocq you see into your discards.
Then you've opened up an amazing amount of possibilities.
First, there's your Special Effect card Rebound. This card
lets you change the Shooter to any of your discarded cards.
So Marco-plus-Rebound under the hoop is the same as Rocq under
the hoop. Then there's your two Allez-Oops. These say if Rocq's
discarded, the play succeeds. So that's three plays that will
likely go in with one Rocq in the discard pile.
Rocq, of course, is useless in any zone that isn't cardinal-colored.
His numbers are as extreme as they come. Plus, your musketeers
Brie, Marco, Drew, and Çedilla have one of the wider
ranges of shooting and blocking numbers, meaning that you
need to know which one is good at what, and fast. This need
is somewhat mitigated by your two Assists, which give +5 to
a play's value. You should play these Special Effects on plays
you're not sure about. At minimum, they'll likely neutralize
a couple Blockers.
One last note about Rebound: In the Green zone, you can change
an opponent's Shooter to one in your discard pile. That means
that an opponent's play will become your play, so you'd better
make sure it succeeds. For that matter, in extremis, you can
even change an opponent's shooter to your own in your Blue
or Red zone. You'll be giving up 2 or 3 points, but it's a
lot better than seeing a Go Team!-Human Pyramid or Sudden
Death-Hail Me combo come together on your watch.
