The Aztecs are a balanced team. Tula's numbers are pretty
amazing away from the Red zone, and Tex, Tlacopan, and Zal
are all good even Shooters and Blockers.
But take a look at team leader Huitzilopochtli's numbers.
Zilla's got five medium to poor numbers and only one great
number: a 9 shot value in the Red zone. Turns out there's
a reason for that. The Special Effect called Hail Me triples
the points of any play he makes. Still, with only three court
cards on which this play is a certainty, your likelihood for
pulling off the 6-point play is probably less than you'd like.
You're better off trying for a Blue zone play and Zilla's
4 shot value. The Jump Shot's the only sure thing, assuming
no Blockers or other shenanigans. The Long Shot by itself
won't quite make it, but a Blue Ball will get it in the net.
Ah, but that's where the other Special Effects come in. Sacrifice
Fly lets you move the play to any zone. Against the Aztecs'
opposite number, The Dark, you'll likely be using your two
zone changers on defense against The Dark's four (!) zone
changers. But try to hold one Sac Fly back for a Hail Me-Zilla
play in the Green zone, where eight court cards await this
surprise play. Zilla in the Red zone will attract Blockers
left and right, but out in the Green he'll be flying solo.
Even better, Sudden Death will make that Hail Me play succeed
wherever it occurs. And if you've got Huitzilopochtli out
on the perimeter, you're looking at a 9-point play. Just remember
to chuck a player in your discards, or this trick won't work
at all.
